Why YAKAP Was Created

President Marcos explained the rationale:

“Bakit masyadong mataas ang mortality rate sa malalaking ospital? Dahil napakalayo ng ating malalaking ospital doon sa kanilang pinanggagalingan.”

The program aims to:

  • Bring healthcare closer to communities
  • Reduce hospital overcrowding
  • Prevent illnesses from worsening
  • Promote early detection and preventive care
  • Lower out-of-pocket healthcare expenses

Program Goals

According to PhilHealth President Edwin Mercado:

  1. Protect every Filipino’s health regardless of age
  2. Expand primary and outpatient care benefits
  3. Focus on prevention, not just treatment
  4. Make healthcare more accessible at community level
  5. Reduce burden on major hospitals

Important Notes

  • Free of charge - All basic services covered by PhilHealth
  • Nationwide coverage - Available at accredited facilities across the Philippines
  • No additional payments - Members only pay for non-covered services
  • Digital convenience - QR codes eliminate return trips for prescriptions
